KDDI officially launch ‘Gurutto Free Viewpoint’ with Ubitus streaming technology

21-06-10

Ubitus K.K. (hereinafter Ubitus), a world leading cloud gaming provider, offers its patented GPU virtualization and streaming technology to enable KDDI, a major Japanese telecom company, to launch the “Gurutto* Free Viewpoint” service for its 5G Smart Pass Premium subscribers.

KDDI Research Institute developed the “Free Viewpoint” technology based on sophisticated three-dimensional computer graphics (3DCG) model. This computer model is able to analyze the moving figures, background and surrounding moving objects to construct a 360-degree scene with only a few cameras. With the “Gurutto Free Viewpoint” application installed, Smart Pass Premium subscribers can enjoy interactive entertainment contents, such as sports and music, and choose their favorite watching angles freely by dragging, zooming in/out or rotating the camera viewpoint on screen.

The “Free Viewpoint” content is composed of multiple video streams captured and composed into a 3DCG model. The resulted vast data stream requires advanced real-time rendering and stable network delivery to end users. Ubitus’ GPU virtualization and streaming technology not only harness the power of GPU server for 3DGC rendering, it also ensures seamless transitions from one viewpoint to another viewpoint without any lag from onsite event to remote viewers.

“It is our privilege to work with KDDI, a top telecom operator in Japan, on this promising rich-content AR/VR service. We believe our technology has a broad range of applications and continue to explore its potential. We are looking forward to working with any ambitious telecommunication operators, leveraging our technology and their infrastructures, to deliver the next big rich-content services,’ Wesley Kuo, CEO of Ubitus, comments.

*Gurutto: is a Japanese word which means turning around or rotating.
