Ubitus Partners with Matsue City to Create AI-Generated Mascots Using UbiArt

Ubitus K.K. (hereafter referred to as Ubitus) is delighted to announce the adoption of its proprietary AI image generation tool, UbiArt, by Matsue City, Shimane Prefecture (Mayor: Akihito Uesada; hereafter referred to as Matsue City). Matsue City plans to leverage UbiArt to create mascot characters, known as Yuru-Chara, to represent the city.

In 2025, Matsue City will celebrate the 20th anniversary of its merger with seven neighboring towns by introducing a new charming character. The city will select a candidate from the AI-generated character images produced by UbiArt, finalize the design in October, and reveal it in February 2025. The character’s design and nickname will be determined through a public vote.
Matsue City is believed to be the first municipality in Japan to use AI technology for character creation. Ubitus intends to offer this innovative AI solution to other municipalities in the future.

Developed using the Graphic Diffusion model, UbiArt is a versatile tool capable of creating images from text or photos.
