Ubitus K.K. provide technology to SEGA for “Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis CLOUD” on Nintendo Switch™ and PC, launching in Japan on June 9 alongside the global version

Hardware limitation shattered by the cloud, get ready for endless adventures in the PSO2 world

Ubitus K.K. (hereinafter Ubitus), a leading-edge cloud gaming provider, has provided technology for Phantasy Star Online 2 CLOUD (hereinafter “PSO2 CLOUD”), an online RPG developed by SEGA Corporation for Nintendo Switch™ and PC, since 2018. They are also providing technology for the online RPG “PSO2: New Genesis CLOUD”, which is now available for Nintendo Switch™ and PC. The domestic and global versions were both released on June 9, 2021.

Key Vision of “Phantasy Star Online 2 Cloud”

Minimal download and storage requirement

New players who have a Nintendo Switch™ can start enjoying the game by downloading and activating a small launch program, around 40MB, from Nintendo eShop. Existing players can begin the gameplay when “PSO2：NGS CLOUD” icon is shown after a short automatic update.

As for PC players, they can choose either the regular version or cloud version, after installation and activation of the relatively small game launcher, at around 100 MB. Since the game is rendered by high-end GPUs in the cloud, players can freely enjoy the game without any concern of their hardware performance or storage capacity.

Equally beneficial to game developers and publishers, they can maximize market reach by leveraging the cloud version for distribution to many channels and devices together with the traditional versions.
