Taiwan Rises to 21st in Global AI Computing Power with Launch of Ubilink AI computing center
24-11-15The Foxlink Group (2392), in collaboration with Ubitus K.K. and its leading energy brand Shinfox Energy (6806), has established “Ubilink.” This initiative aims to create Taiwan’s AI revolution computing center and significantly enhance the country’s global competitiveness in computing. The AI computing center officially opened on November 14th, achieving four major milestones and ranking 21st in the global TOP500 supercomputer list. Moreover, it is Asia’s first green energy AI computing center, propelling Taiwan’s AI capabilities onto the global stage.
Significant Milestones and Industry Contributions
Chen Pei-Li, Deputy Director of the Industrial Development Administration under the Ministry of Economic Affairs, attended the Ubilink AI computing center opening ceremony. She noted that Taiwan currently ranks 26th globally in AI, based on 95 indicators. With the completion of Taiwan’s most powerful computing center, this achievement is expected to elevate the nation’s AI industry ranking and bolster its AI capabilities.
Chen also revealed that the government is amending provisions of the Industrial Innovation Act to foster AI development, net-zero transformation, and expanded fundraising for startups. These measures include increased incentives for the AI industry, with implementation extended to December 31, 2029, aligning with other tax incentive provisions under the Act.
Liu He-Ran, Deputy Mayor of New Taipei City, emphasized the city government’s commitment to industry development and AI trends. He stated that the opening ceremony of Ubilink not only marks Taiwan’s top AI achievement but also creates local employment opportunities and strengthens New Taipei City’s reputation as a hub for smart manufacturing in Tucheng.
TC Guo, Chairman of Foxlink Group, affirmed the government’s emphasis on the AI industry as a strategic priority. Highlighting that “computing power equals national power,” he announced plans to accelerate the construction of second- and third-phase computing centers, aligning with NVIDIA’s annual architectural advancements. These efforts aim to make Taiwan’s computing power the strongest in Asia, laying a solid foundation for next-generation AI innovation.
Joe Hsieh, COO of ASUS, praised the Ubilink as a milestone for Taiwan in the global AI arena. Despite the daunting challenge, Foxlink achieved three breakthroughs:
- Time Efficiency: Completed the center in half the expected time.
- Enhanced Computing Power: Exceeded the original target of 40 PFLOPs, reaching 45.82 PFLOPs—a 12.5% improvement.
- Energy Savings: Optimized energy efficiency, reducing overall power consumption.
Four Key Milestones of the Ubilink AI computing center
- Advanced NVIDIA Hopper GPU Infrastructure Equipped with 1,024 NVIDIA Hopper GPUs and NVIDIA Quantum-2 InfiniBand network platform, the center delivers top-tier computing power of 45.82 PFLOPs. It ranked 21st in the TOP500 global supercomputer list as of November 2024, second only to Japan and China in Asia.
- Taiwan’s Strongest Computing Power Ubilink, alongside the Taiwania 2 and 3 supercomputers built by the National Applied Research Laboratories and NVIDIA Taipei-1, constitutes Taiwan’s top five computing centers with a combined 82.95 PFLOPs. Ubilink accounts for 55% of this capacity, making it the most powerful in Taiwan.
- Fastest Construction Timeline Completed in just three months, the project was made possible by NVIDIA’s technical support, Foxlink’s resources, Senao Energy’s expertise, and ASUS’s collaboration.
- Asia’s First Green Energy AI Computing Center Hu, Chairman of Ubilink, emphasized the center’s integration of green energy resources through Shinfox Energy. Ubilink offers fully renewable energy-powered operations tailored to client needs, setting a new benchmark for sustainable computing and digital innovation.
