Ubitus Partners with Kaohsiung Medical University to Develop AI Virtual Nurses for Elderly and Chronic Care

Ubitus, a global leader in cloud streaming and artificial intelligence technologies, announced a collaboration with Kaohsiung Medical University to launch the research project “Enhancing Nursing Quality through Generative AI-Based Digital Virtual Nurses.” The initiative focuses on four key areas: elderly care, medication safety, adolescent body management, and chronic disease self-management, aiming to create AI-powered virtual nursing systems that combine professional expertise, real-time interaction, and empathetic engagement.
As part of this collaboration, Ubitus’s AI virtual character platform UbiOne will be integrated into the hospital setting to create virtual nursing staff with distinct roles, such as elderly health management assistants, medication safety educators, and elderly fall-risk assessment aides. These virtual characters can engage patients in natural language conversations via tablet devices, offering health education, reminders, and lifestyle guidance to support nurses in patient education and self-management empowerment.
UbiOne features capabilities such as voice cloning, multilingual generation, customizable character personas, and scenario-based dialogue, enabling differentiated training for various nursing subfields. On-screen, the characters not only present a friendly appearance and professional attire but can also respond instantly to patient inquiries, conduct fall-risk assessments, offer dietary advice, and provide medication reminders—delivering an interaction experience akin to that of a real nurse.
The project is co-led by Professor Hung-Hsing Lu of Kaohsiung Medical University and Professor Heng-Hsin Tung of National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University, combining AI engineering, clinical nursing, big data, and generative AI technologies to develop a scalable and upgradeable virtual nurse system. Ubitus focuses on the R&D and implementation of the AI virtual human system, helping healthcare institutions establish sustainable digital care solutions that drive digital transformation and intelligent upgrades in nursing, reduce frontline workloads, and enhance patient care quality and engagement.
