Ubitus Unveils METI-Supported 405B Tourism LLM: Japan’s Highest-Performance Multilingual Model
25-06-19
Ubitus, a global leader in cloud streaming and AI solutions, has unveiled the results of its most advanced AI project to date: a 405B-parameter large language model (LLM) developed with the support of Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) under the GENIAC program.
Built on Meta’s Llama 3.1, the model delivers top-tier performance in reasoning, visual understanding, and cultural localization—making it the highest-performing tourism-focused LLM in Japan.
Multilingual Benchmark Excellence Powered by Regional Data
The 405B model is one of the largest and most powerful foundation models tailored for tourism and multilingual applications. It delivers high performance across Japanese, Traditional Chinese, Korean, and English, with greatly improved accuracy and fluency in natural dialogue tasks.
In benchmark evaluations, the model has demonstrated advanced performance across multiple metrics—surpassing GPT-4 in certain knowledge-based tasks. Notable results include:

The model also excels in multimodal tasks, particularly in Japanese OCR—accurately interpreting maps, menus, signs, and other visual elements essential for travel-related use cases. Its training data was sourced through regional collaboration, with Japanese provided by Deepreneur, Korean by Seoul National University, and Chinese curated and trained by Ubitus.
Training Powered by AWS and NVIDIA
To efficiently train this large-scale model, Ubitus utilized Amazon SageMaker HyperPod equipped with NVIDIA H100 GPUs. The model was trained on over 200 billion tokens of pretraining data and 100 billion tokens of tourism-specific fine-tuning data, leveraging scalable infrastructure for rapid iteration and refinement.
Validated Use Cases and Cross-Sector Expansion
Multilingual AI-powered mascot “Chokimaru” introduces Maizuru City in Chinese, English, and Japanese.
The 405B model has been field-tested across tourism and healthcare sectors. In Kyoto’s Maizuru City, an AI concierge featuring the mascot “Chokimaru” was deployed via mobile and browser, offering real-time multilingual Q&A (Chinese, English, and Japanese) for tourists at key attractions. Large displays were also installed to enhance on-site visitor support.
In Taiwan, a collaborative pilot is underway at MacKay Memorial Hospital, integrating the model with quadruped, humanoid, and AMR robots for guidance, dialogue, and logistics support. While public user access is not yet available, the testing process is helping refine the model’s performance in medical environments. Expansion is also planned across multiple sectors, with upcoming deployments in local governments, major food chains, apparel retailers, and construction firms.
Coming Soon to AWS Marketplace
Ubitus will soon release the 405B model on AWS Marketplace, enabling easy access for developers and tourism-focused businesses.
