Ubitus Partners with National Taiwan University to launch Taiwan LLM and Innovative AI Solutions

23-11-15

Ubitus K.K.(hereinafter Ubitus), a cloud streaming solutions leader, held an AI Press Conference in collaboration with Associate Professor Vivian Chen from National Taiwan University,(hereinafter NTU) developed a specific version for Taiwanese requirements – Taiwan LLM (Large Language Model). With joint efforts from industries, government, and academic institutions, Ubitus’ Taiwanese LLM aims to improve open-source models in Taiwan and to promote its application in various industries. The conference emphasized the need for investments in AI and traditional Chinese language sources, while introducing other AI-related solutions.

Taiwan LLM: A Large Language Model Exclusive for Traditional Chinese in Taiwan

Ubitus has partnered with AWS (Amazon Web Services) to provide cloud computing capabilities for NTU’s “Taiwan LLM.” This model is based on Meta Llama 2 and incorporates vast amounts of local Taiwanese textual data, from encyclopedias, news, novels, magazines, and social media content. It has over 30 billion traditional Chinese characters, providing accurate responses to Taiwan-specific queries. Taiwan LLM version 2.0, a 13B model, is available as an open-source project online, allowing users to customize the model for their specific needs. It can fine-tune prompts and application scenarios to ensure relevant, localized, and professional AI responses.

AI Integration and Application

With Taiwan LLM, Ubitus has also launched four AI solution’s products, including

  • “Ubi GPT,” which allows rapid access to Taiwan LLM data via API on Ubitus’ cloud platform.
  • “Ubi-chan,” a virtual character developed based on Taiwan LLM.
  • “Ubi Art,” a drawing tool that integrates Stable Diffusion with natural language for creative artwork.
  • “Ubi Anchor,” which uses Taiwan LLM to condense and summarize articles, automatically generating video content with an AI anchor.

Following the press conference, pre-registration links for these products were provided, allowing interested developers to test these products beforehand. Visitors can also experience these offerings firsthand at the Information Technology Month exhibition from November 9th to November 12th.

Wesley Kuo, CEO of Ubitus, stated,”This marks the start of Traditional Chinese language model construction. Ubitus will continue to invest in resources to support tech talent and high-quality Traditional Chinese cultural assets. Our goal is to open-source Taiwanese LLM and even to Asian countries, contributing to the preservation and integration of Taiwanese culture with AI technology.”

Associate Professor Vivian Chen from NTU stated, “Ubitus’ assistance in developing the Taiwanese LLM program in collaboration with NTU’s lab has been crucial. It has incorporated local language and backgrounds, preserving Taiwan’s unique cultural characteristics and satisfying specific demands from different  industries in Taiwan. This contribution greatly benefits the Taiwanese LLM community’s development.”
